Good morning all,
I am wondering about the SEF.
Do I add new information by simply adding a date and the info underneath previous written work. Or you I properly edit out things that aren't relevent any more and remould whole pieces of work?
Hope that make sense

I did a combination of both. Some things were quite specific to the children I had at the time of writing and who had since left, so I took that out. Other things were still relevant so I just updated it and added the date.

It didn't make much difference though as the inspector didn't read it...but that's another story!

Thanks mouse, I think mine might look a bit disjointed and with the same point getting discussed in more than one area. I just want to get something written down, its not going to be brilliant but better than nothing at all I suppose. Would you do another one now mouse or has that put you off?

That's what I do ... add stuff with the date and take out things that are not relevant. I think it shows how your practice changes.

My inspector did read mine, but didn't particularly comment on it.

Mine is messy with some info repeated several times, and I'm sure some stuff is in the wrong place, but as long as I have everything I want there somewhere, I'm happy!

Well, my previous inspector loved my very in depth SEF and said it made her job a lot easier. This more recent inspector said it was too long and too detailed, so she didn't read it. Hopefully I won't have her for another inspection so I do keep my SEF up to date in the expectation that I'll have a different inspector who actually takes the time to read it

I update mine a couple of times a year. But don't tend to date it. I haven't deleted much but have learned how to condense things as my practice has grown. I have got things written in the wrong sections and repeated myself several times but I'm not changing it as it is all relevant. Don't stress too much about repeating yourself and wrong sections as the most important thing is you have recorded things. My inspector did read mine because she sat in her car outside my house before my inspection and I was peeping through the curtain from upstairs and could see the pages. When she phoned to make me aware that she was coming to inspect me I asked her to read my sef and said as I had put a lot of work into it. And when she was here I asked her if she had read it (couldn't admit to peeping at her earlier) and she said 'she was here to prove I could deliver on what I had written'. She also wrote about it in my final report. For me it's a very important document as I didn't get a chance to speak much to her on my inspection day.

Thank you everyone. Your comments have given me confidence to just get on and write and not worry about it being perfect, wish it didn't take so long though!

that's the beauty of just adding stuff ... once its done, it only takes me 10-15 mins every now and again to update the odd bit!
