I am claiming for one of my mindees. The funding won't be paid to me until later in the term so the parents gave paid me in full and I will refund the funded payment to them when I receive it. Problem is my rate is £5/hr. The funding pays £6/hr. So which rate should I refund to the parents?!

£5 an hour

If parents are expecting more than your hourly rate explain that the extra goes towards extending their childs learning with the provider - so resources, trips out, etc

If they have paid you the funded amount, so that you don't go short, then obviously you would refund what they've paid you

£5. The parents can not profit from it. The 'extra' £1, over an above your usual fees, is for the development and improvement of your setting and is an incentive designed to tempt providers to offer the 2yr funding and take on these 2 yr olds (who sometimes come with more difficult backgrounds or circumstances).

Thanks so much for clearing that up. Makes sense how you both explain it. Cheers!
