Hi all,

I recently had surgery and had booked a week off, the surgeon told me I would need 2 weeks minimum. Unfortunately one of my families have given me notice due to this, my family has had some sick recently and they feel sending their children to a nursery is a safer option as they will not be let down last minute.

They are only with me this week and due to holiday and the surgery it will be there last time. Normally I get leaving gifts for the children but I was given notice the day after surgery and have only gone back to work this week. I haven't got them anything.

I suppose the question is, should I feel guilty that I haven't got them anything? Losing this contract is going to hit me hard financially so spare money is none existent. Does everyone get pressies for their leavers?

Absolutely don't feel guilty!!

A card for the little one with some photos in it ... enough!

Hugs to you xx

I often get something small like a book about starting school or I got one little one some sunglasses from sainsburys, then I do a small photo album of 20 or so of their pics from starting to their little leaving party tea... However I've only been given notice because children are leaving for school or moving away, I had one set leave due to continuous late payment and then mum off sick and didn't want to pay at all! and obviously didn't get them anything as although I'd been paid up to date they left suddenly and left me with a big gap which I struggled to fill and money was v tight

Thanks guys, money will be a major issue as I wasn't expecting this. I can understand why the mum has done it but it's a shame for the youngest as she won't get as much out or nursery, she's definitely a child who thrives on close relationships. Was still a shock though, because of sickness and holidays their 4 weeks notice means I only have them for 2 days so not much time to do anything special.
