Hi everyone I'm looking after a child who had eczema and just wondering if anyone else has and anything different you might have done to help? I hate seeing them scratch, looks so painful when they're so young :-(

My daughter has eczema. It was pretty bad around the ages of 3 months to 18 months but it still flares up sometimes. I think you have to talk to parents about what they think triggers the eczema. My DD's gets worse when it's hot, the heat combined with sun cream makes it worse. Also I have to use washing detergent (Surcare) that suits her more sensitive skin as normal detergents make her skin worse. It could be certain foods that make it worse.

As a parent, I had to go to the doctors lots for them to prescribe us with lots of different emollient creams to see which one worked for her. We also had to use a steroid cream to clear up the worst of it.

Children with excema tend to run a little hotter than the average bear so keep them cool - a big fan helps and cotton clothes :D
