If you registered with Ofsted recently then ofsted will have automatically registered you with your local environmental health as a food provider.
If you were registered a while ago you needed to inform your local env. health dept yourself.
Sorry, I do not know the date that this procedure changed. If you are in doubt yu can ask your local env health dept.

What your local env health will ask of you will depend on where you live- some come out and do inspections, some give star ratings like restaurants etc, some do not inspect at all.

Either way it is good to have this document and to work through it carefully as it covers pretty much everything:

A food hygiene course is good to do too (and is a requirement in some areas- ask your local authority)

This explains it: 'If you are planning to start up a childminder business that provides food as part of your childminding service, in England, you do not need to register separately as a food business with your local authority. This will happen automatically when you register with Ofsted. This only applies for registrations made on or after 1 January 2014, and is part of the government’s commitment to reduce the burden on business. - See more at: https://www.food.gov.uk/business-industry/caterers/startingup/childminders#sthash.2CMTURUS.dpuf'

So just keep up to date with the Safer Food Better Business document and wait and see if your local authority env health do check CMers or not- any local CMers should be able to tell you.
