we do chalk drawing on black paper ... older children do spirals and 'explosions' for the fireworks, small children just scribble, but with a bit of a smudge, they all look very effective as fireworks, ( with maybe a touch of glitterglue :D )

Chocolate fingers dipped into warm water then put into sprinkles make edible sparklers

Or breadsticks dipped in melted choc and sprinkles, or philadelphia/dairylea and seeds/raisons.
