Which areas of learning would you say a trip to the garden centre covers?

It really depends on what you did there, what your objective/ next step focus for a LO/ intended learning was in your reason for going?

You could cover all areas there. Is this a hypothetical question or have you been to a garden centre already...?? Maybe some more info and we can help you...

Just bought a herb to plant! :-) I didn't go for any other reason other than needing to buy something but will get my mindee to help me plant it because they'll enjoy it but no other reason for going!

They passed it to the cashier and I spoke to the cashier so don't know if that's a bit of c&l and PSED?
And we bought a herb which they smelt and will help plant do I figured that's utw...
But not sure!

So you want to record what learning the children got out of it? Is that for an observation?

I'd be looking at the event in terms of the achievements of the individual child- if one spoke politely to the cashier than yes, that's a good obs for CL/PSED for that child, if they one was interested in the herb and asked about it etc and that is a new thing or developing thing for that child then that is worth noting as UW obs and it shows CoEL.

Personally, I see no value in generally saying an outing ticks off x, y, z in term of Areas of learning- who is that useful for? If you find it useful for yourself then great, but make sure you know why you are trying to note this.

So, If you had 'planned ' this activity: gardening : planting something that you can eat, herb plant names, go with a picture and word shopping list, look for name on herb label, plant picture matches plant, children experience shopping, pay the cashier with money. Plan where to plant...in garden, what do plants need to grow, tools needed for digging hole....caring for plant...harvesting and eating food which uses said herb....smell, feel ...gosh there are loads of experiences ..and opportunities, especially in C&L ..it is definately not a 'just' bought a herb plant....but it depends what you actually observed LO learning whilst having this good experience.......

We could add some maths...how big the hole for the plant, counting money to pay
Technology: using tools for digging
Herb can be used for cooking...yum!...also sensory as herbs smell delicious too
Physical...fine and gross motor skills, manipulation, handling
Arts and Design...developing a project and exploration

What a lovely experience!
