Can anyone recommend me a particular kiddie-proof garden gate lock (the types used in Pre school maybe) that I could use for my small garden gate?

I just use a normal gate with a space for a padlock, and then a combination padlock! ( that way I don't ever have to worry about losing the key! ) and the LOs can't get out! ( and no one else can get in ):D

What you need is a bolt ' out of reach' of the children so they cannot open it and get out
We do not need to do as nurseries do...we are a home based setting.

Thanks simona, whilst I totally agree with you it was a recommendation from my LA so I feel if I don't do it they will find fault with my setting...

The final decision on how you prevent children escaping is totally down to you...bear in mind that in a case of fire you may need to open that gate quickly and get out so make sure the key is at hand.

Many years ago my DO suggested I change my whole way of planning because she could not understand it...I didn't and the rest is history as my inspector had no problems following it!

Both my back garden gates have bolts high up. The children cannot reach them and wouldn't even dream of trying, they know they are not allowed anyway. I am always needing to get in and out of the gates from both sides, from in the garden to get out and from the other side of the gates (driveway and front garden) to get in so therefore a padlock just wouldn't suit me at all. No-one (ofsted / LA) has ever had a problem with it.
