Hi, I have put together an early years outcomes progress tracker which shows all the eyfs development areas and the age groups and expected behaviours. There is space to date and to write in any obs that were done. I am looking for a good system of using this tracker to mark off where a child is at on starting the setting then to link it with my obs. I was thinking of having some sort of colour coded key system but just need some ideas please!

It's important to use EYO as guidance - not a definitive child development tick list.

Note what the child can do and make a judgement about whether it's about right for their age - or if they are flying or struggling - then you can plan for their learning :D

As Sarah said, it is not a tick-list. A child may or may not do some statements, and will certainly do loads of other important things, and still be 100% on track developmentally.

I look for a general 'best fit' in an age/stage area. So I read all the statements for an Aspect's age-stage and think: 'is Johnny roughly in that area? Just starting to be, or completely? or actually starting to move into next age-stage?'

You can never match all obs to EYO statements, and likewise we should not be trying to make obs to match all EYO statements!

My tracker is a bit more rough than yours I track once a term areas I am observing, it's a tracker for me rather than the child, shows me which areas I'm observing in and where the gaps are so I can plan and make sure I'm covering all the bases. (Not everything on the list in eyo just general areas)
