Hello!
It's me after story book help again!
I have a LO currently obsessed by magnets .... we have played with magnets, magnetic fishing, geomag, magnetic puzzle things, dressing magnetic dolls, books with magnetic pages ... I'm running out of ideas!
I wondered if anyone knew of a story book about magnets? !!! We've looked at non fiction books about magnets.
Thanks x

Just a heads up as my DS had a very scary incident with magnets - specifically 'Neo cube' magnets
At 10 years old, you'd have thought he knew better, but apparently not

Following a visit to his Dad's, where these stupid things came from, he used 2 of these ultra strong magnets to make it look like he had a lip piercing, as a laugh, as he knew how I'd react...

When he tried separating them, the front one shot out of his fingers, into his mouth, and took the other one with it as it shot down his throat....cue trip to hospital.
Hospital had to contact a specialist in London as there had been a high alert with these particular ones.

Basically, because they are so strong, if they are swallowed separately, as they travel along the gut, they can attract each other through bodily linings...
They have also been known to shoot out of the body when they come into close contact with something metal....!

It was a very scary time I can tell you, with lots of curries, additional hospital potions to loosen him up, and daily xrays to track progress.
After 3 days of them not moving, it was decided that they were going to operate, however thankfully, the morning of his admittance, they came out together :clapping:

They are fascinating to play with, and some of the videos of the creations made with them are stunning, but, from a distance

I'm not suggesting for one minute you'd allow a LO to play with magnets unsupervised btw, but I do know of parents with young children (3+) that bought Neo Cubes as Christmas presents, thinking they'd be 'safer' as they are really hard to separate when they're in a clump together...

That's frightening Kiddleywinks.

My daughter has 2 very small, but very strong magnets that she kept putting on her lip so it looks like a piercing, despite me telling her not to.

DH decided to see if he could use them to make it look like he had a belly button piercing  Needless to say, DD hasn't put them anywhere near her mouth since!

I would need very large and strong magnets if I was to try that!!!!!

A few years ago you could buy sets of magnets to be used as lip piercings and ear rings. You could get then from Claire's! There was some press coverage at the time due to the dangers.

My borough has recently sent out information warning of the dangers of swallowing button batteries! They are a danger for kids and also older people who mistake then for tablets. I can attach the details if anyone is interested( from my laptop, as I don't know how to do it from iPad!!!)

I have a pair of the oval very strong magnets, a mindee decided to post them into the mouth of a hollow dinosaur where they then joined together and we couldn't get them out - ended up cutting open the dinosaur and a stanley knife to get magnets out and then gluing back together again! Lucky they didn't have to do the same to your son Kiddywinks!

A childminder friend of mine suspected that a mindee of hers swallowed a button battery from a calculator he was playing with. It was a very scary time for her. The x-ray didn't show the battery inside him but she couldn't find it anywhere at home. The parents were great about it thankfully.
