Sticky eyes

Advice pls - twins I look after on Friday one had terrible puffy eyes, became sticky eyes by ebd of the day. Other twin also but sticky
As only them I text mum and advised think they may need treatment
They asked me a few weeks ago if I can have them tomorrow, as a one off. At the time agreed.
But bit concerned if still not right, would this be contagious - should I exclude? Will text parents later to see but want to be clear in my
Mind how to proceed first

If I thought it was conjunctivitis (red, sore, itchy, oozy) I would exclude and ask them to get treatment as it is very contagious and nasty.

If they had heavy colds and it was related to all that gunk in nose/throat etc I have seen cause gunky eyes too... then I would be more open-minded.

The HPA advice is no exclusion for conjunctivitis although I did ask my parent to stay away and get treatment. I didn't charge as its such a grey area.
