Hi All,

Just wondering what are the first foods you offer after your LO has had a tummy bug? DD has had a 24 hour thing (both D and V) and can now keep water down. Hubby and I slightly disagree on what we should offer her in terms of food. We both agree no dairy though. What do you offer? Also, my mum used to insist on us having only boiled cooled water to drink - does it have to be boiled or will tap water do? Thanks x

Years ago I was told to give children the 'BRAT' diet after d&v ... Banana, plain Rice, Apple (grated helps it to be digested quicker) & Toast (dry). Don't add any dairy for at least 24hrs, preferably 48.
I sometimes add a little plain tuna to the rice or jam to the toast.

And little sips of water ... Don't think it matters about boiled or tap.

Hope your dd better soon.

I was told quite recently that as soon as a child shows any symptoms of D&V they should only drink cooled boiled water which apparently shortens the illness. A few mums swear by it.
I usually only offer plain, dry food for 24hrs and then slowly introduce normal foods again depending on what the child fancies.

The docs always recommended the BRAT diet for my children too
