Am I right in thinking that an apprentice over 17 who has been ofsted vetted police checked and first aided can have all the responsibilities of a regular assistant?
Including ratio entitlements
ie me and an apprentice can feasibly have 8 children if two are risk assessed (and parent approved) exceptions? (Sibling and continuity of care)

Yes - DBS, EY2, first aid and suitability letter from Ofsted.

They might also need safeguarding training check with your LSCB / LA... or you might be able to train in-house.

The Eyfs says -

3.29. Only those aged 17 or over may be included in ratios (and staff under 17 should be supervised at all times). Students on long term placements and volunteers (aged 17 or over) and staff working as apprentices in early education (aged 16 or over) may be included in the ratios if the provider is satisfied that they are competent and responsible.
