That woman has caused too many near nervous breakdowns in new parents in my opinion. And I am talking from experience LOL!

Her name is not mentioned in our household. Her routines are just ridiculous in my opinion. :(

At the risk of being lynched, I found her books really helpful with my first two children but they do have to be taken with a healthy pinch of salt. They are also extremely badly written IMHO.

Unfortunately, I think the understandable back-lash against strict routines has led many parents to believe that any routine is bad.

Yup. But to be fair on Ms Ford, the same could be said for a huge number of educationalists, trainers and other experts.

Personally, I think the lo's would benefit more from a toy castle full of dinosaurs. :)

When I was I first time mum I purchased her contented baby book, it did cause me unnecessary stress tbh! It didn't take me long to put the book down and never look at it again I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Although I did really like her potty training book and did find it helpful.

In every profession there are experts and specialists...not sure if Gina Ford or even Supernanny can be classified as that though?
In EY we have Cathy Nutbrown, Lilian Katz...to name a few ....those are the ones I would follow happily so to speak.... as they are specialists in their field

Talking of specialists and a little off topic...I was watching the news on the guy who performed surgery to help paralysed people walk again....utterly impossible to describe the feeling of those who were helped by this 'specialist'...long may he specialise in his field!!!

I think we all inevitably choose who to follow based on personal preference. Find someone who agrees with us, someone with letters after their name, and one's argument suddenly looks better. Trends change over time, and probably faster than ever right now, according to society and the State's perceived needs.

100 years ago, it was people like Baden Powell who thought children needed 'toughening up' to defend the Empire. Not long ago, the experts saw single mums as destroying the foundations of society. Now it's anything to make sure "hard-working families" are providing a mum and dad who both go out to work, whilst their babies are got ready for university (like that's going to solve anything.) :(

Ah ah..........that must be the reason why no Childcare Minister ever appears on TV...because they are no experts and know zero about childcare....and yet they continue to tell us what is good for children and 'hard working' families?
Would not surprise me to see Tshirts on sale soon with that appalling slogan.

The DfE has spent huge sums of money on research and have employed the 'experts' time and knowledge to report on several subjects...as in the case of Prof Nutbrown who has no letters after her name but ...had the vast majority of her recommendations in her report rejected by the DfE but was recently called to give evidence in front of the Committee looking into the childcare saga and particularly the qualifications conundrum which was her main recommendation rejected by Truss et al

I agree that some people choose who to follow according to what the message is at the time ...in politics they are called 'floating voters' I believe?...but others follow those who are consistent in their approach and do not change just because there is an election coming.

I would love for you to read the latest speech by Sam Gyimah...Truss' replacement as Childcare Minister....and comment on his vision on the future of education according to his assumptions and....clearly stated in the 1st paragraph ....childcare is all new to him :angry:
