Look what my fantastic husband has spent the last 2 weekends building for me - can't wait for it to rain so we can try out our under covered play area - just need him to get me some plywood so I can make my blackboards now.

Looks great:thumbsup:

I've been thinking about having something similar but am worried it might cut out some of the precious little light I get in my living room. Have you noticed any difference at all?

I love this ! Not sure my hubby is going to love me showing him this though :-) I've been "suggesting " that we had one for a while. Was it expensive for the building materials ?

Think the materials will have cost over £800 - the twin poly carb roof sheeting was the biggest expense and he also used prepared (or partly prepared) timber for the upright posts so the children don't get splinters. Haven't noticed too much difference in the light in the dining room or kitchen even though there is still dew on the roof sheets from the mist this morning. I did see that someone recently did a smaller one on side of house and used corrugated pvc roof sheets, I decided that although that would be cheaper as this is on the whole back of my house that I would pay extra for the nicer roofing.

I know we aren't supposed to put through expenses things that are permanently attached to house (supposed to then by a home improvement) - but I'm going to put through 50% even though it will be used 100% for mindees. Will argue it out with tax man if ever get inspected!

So you and your family will never ever use the area when you are not working?

Looks fab! :jump for joy: It's exactly what I'm dreaming of for the back of my house. Will have to fork out for a carport kit and pay someone to build it for me though, so will be saving for quite a while. Enjoy it! x

Only to walk through to get to the garden - by the time all the toys, bikes, blackboards (when made) are back in - not sure I will want to sit in it on a wet day - maybe only the deck area which less than a third of whole structure - so feel justified putting 50% through my accounts even though I know i'm not supposed too. :D

I think you can put through the percentage of the costs, so if its solely in use for children from 8 til 5 five days a week then you can proportion the amount you put through....

I had been asking him to build me one for nearly a year - then a few weeks ago I said I couldn't make my mind up between sending £800 on a canopy or £15000 on a lovely garden room extension. Next thing I knew was the roofing was being delivered! :D

Its lovely!!! After much persuading (and sulking) I finally got DH to build me a decked area with fencing all round so babies could get out more, and I have asked him about a cover over it, but his argument is that it would be noisy when it rains - not that that's a problem for me, but our bedroom is above where it would be, and it might keep him awake :eek::mad:
