Hi, I have a new started who comes to me one day a week for 6.5 hours how many observations should I do on him each month? I was thinking 1 unless something exciting happens like walking etc.

Yes, it might be one a month but some days it might be 3 in a day! As long as they are relevant and interesting then it does not matter. I would be concious of trying to cover all the Prime Areas over a month or two, and Specific Areas too for an over-3 year old. It will take a lot more work to get to know the child with so little time together so you may find you make lots of obs in first months as you get to know them- every little thing will be new to you. Also, get lots of obs from parents as they all count- ask them to note things for you, send you photos of what child does at home etc. and then you can add your own nots like Areas and Next Steps where relevant.
