You need to do an introduction to childminding course before you can register with Ofsted as a childminder - the course is usually called cypop 5 :D

Call your Local Authority for local advise, they should have an Early Years team who can talk you through it and advise on local support and local courses and any funding available.

The Local Authority decide what course you need to do- CYPOP5 was the usual one (in England anyway) but Pacey (Prof Assoc Childcare & Early Yrs) are now saying it is replaced by: 'L3 Award in Preparing to Work in Home-Based Childcare', see below:

Go to Pacey website and look for L3 Award in Preparing to Work in Home-Based Childcare (won't allow me to put link here)

and about registering:

Go to Pacey website and look for How to become a childminder (won't allow me to put link here)

Ofsted | Register as a childminder (http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/early-years-and-childcare/become-childminder-agency-childcare-provider-or-childminder/register-childminder)

Ofsted | Factsheet: childcare - Childcare Register requirements: childminders and home childcarers (http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/resources/factsheet-childcare-childcare-register-requirements-childminders-and-home-childcarers)
