Ok so I have nothing better to do on a Friday night ha ha

Does anybody have a dolls house and do your children play with it. I've had mine for three years and it never gets played with apart from lifting the lid and slamming it down which is quite annoying, especially when it frightens the dog. Think I might get rid of it but just wanted to see if anybody else finds it's a waste of space x

I have, but it never got played with in a way I'd like. The furniture just gets dropped around the room, and the house was usually on its side. I've put it in the shed! Put yours in the attic or shed until you think it will get used by someone nicely.

Mine is used regularly. Until recently it was used along with a castle and ark to make a village for all the small world figures. Unfortunately it is now being used as a wall as shown by the schoolies in the holiday along with all the toy boxes so it will be going away for a bit with lots of other stuff used creatively by the older ones until they forget the way to make a mess like the biggies

My daughters had one but it was one of those things they only played with sometimes

It took up a lot of room and in the end we got rid of it ...then got another and did the same again ha

I wish I would have kept the one now though to be honest

But I agree they do take up space

I keep looking at my dolls house and wondering whether to put it away for a bit too. Was thinking to bring it out for Halloween and Christmas. Halloween to decorate it as a spooky house with things to spot in each room and for Christmas for Elf on the Shelf to move into and to add things to each day. Its a nice big wooden one and I have a fabric advent calendar with big pockets in that would fit a piece of furnature or decoration the children could add each day. It may build back some excitement for playing with the dolls house again!

Yes I have a dolls house, my dad made it for Christmas when I was 5 (so it's pretty ancient now), my parents redecorated it for my children and it does come out occasionally for the minded children, but I agree with other comments that they don't play with it properly they just check the furniture and sylvannian animals all round the room - no imagination to make up stories, I spent hours playing by myself with my dolls house - not recently - when I was little!:D

My only little girl has now gone to school and the new baby girl will only be 9 months when she starts, so think it will be a while until it gets played with again.

My dolls house never gets played with but I do have what many people who see it refer to as the manly doll house. I call it a tree house. It's made by treeblocks. And it gets played with so much. Sometime animals take it over sometimes it's a dinasor park. It has been turned in to a fairy garden a train station. My children are all under two but they are captivated by it. The dolls house on the other hand is abused, used as steps try pulling bits off. It's like all the respect for toys I have worked hard to teach them disappears when around that house

I have one small world building out at a time - dolls house, castle, farm etc. Once I see that it's not being played with much I pack it away and get something else out.

The tree house is a great idea, my DH is busy trying to design one out of the logs and sticks we have! It looks so versatile and that seems key to childrens play at the moment.

A dolls house was my first purchase last year when I was setting up. I do wonder at my planning as it wouldn't be my first purchase if setting up again ( it takes up too much room!)
Mine is a rotating dollshouse that is eco friendly with recycling, wind turbine and pretend solar panels:

My LO's love it and because its open all round it can be accessed easily by more than one child at a time.
The roof garden is the most played with though as when it is on the floor it is a bit like a table top!
DH made me a sturdy table to put it on and the furniture was used more this week. The eco friendliness is really lost on them, but the solar panels make a great slide for baby bear.

I made the mistake of putting out the bear family from the sylvanian families we have the first time it was used ( bear theme) and now 2 LO's have to have the bear family to play in it, despite the numerous other small world people we have ( it also came with a family) and it is always referred to as the Bear house!

We have a home made by grandad house in the loft but it has a few sharp ages and is awaiting revamping for a grandchild........one day.
