Does any have/know of an insurance policy that we can take out to cover for loss of earnings if we or one of our children are ill and we can't work?

I'm not even sure there is such a thing.

I've had a rough month this month, my daughter had grommets (2 days off) on the 2nd day off my son got chicken pox so I closed for 3 more days (5 days in total). Thats was a loss of over £300

Yesterday my DS2 (4) went down with a high temp, he took himself off to bed and I only had one mindee so I continued working. Well things got a lot worse last night and he was rushed to hospital with what the doctors thought was appendicitis (sp?), was all set to have his appendix out this morning but they wanted to check his chest with an x-ray before surgery. it turns out he actually has pneunomia (sp?). Obviously I had to close today as I was in hospital (over £100 loss) but my son is home now and doing well, the rest of this week is quiet and he's not contagious so I'll be open from tomorrow again.

If my son had had his appendix out then I would have had to close for the rest of this week and all of next week, at just over £100 a day that would have been a lot of lost income that as a single mum and the only household income I couldn't have afforded to lose.

My children come first always so if I have to close then I never feel guilty about the mindees and their parents, I make this clear from the start with new mindees.

However the loss of income is going to cripple me this month and could have been a lot lot worse..........never know what the future holds so I want to be prepared. Thats why I was wondering if there was an insurance I could take out?

Sorry for the long winded post and awful spelling, I only got about an hours sleep last night!

If you pay the second type of national insurance, which you usually do if you pay tax, then you can claim statutory sick pay. It won't cover all your loss but will help.

But could you claim that if it isn't you ill but a spouse?

is their no one who could be crb checked, first aided, and child prot who would step in an emergency

you could do it for them and dont charge each other:idea:

worth a thought

I have got a policy that I pay £3 a month into which covers me for time off work through illness myself or anyone else - basically anything that means I am unable to work - not hoidays etc though lol.

I think it is with Co-op or something, hubby sorts all that sort of thing out but I can find out once he's home if you like :)

That would be great if you could ask your hubby.

I've been trying to find something without luck so far, doesn't help that I don't really know what I'm looking for!
