On the new eyfs it states assistants cannot handle food unless they have done a food hygeine course. Is everyone planning to do this with their assistants?

Please can you quote the EYFS 2014 section you are referring to? Thanks.

I have not heard of this and did not see it in the EYFS 2014, so far.

I have not read this anywhere either. Not all childminders have to have it, it depends very much on your local LA and your local Environmental Health Officer.

We don't have to have it in our area and very few of us have ever been inspected. Never mind our Assistants!

Just found it in EYFS 2014- 3.48.

No, it says in GROUP provision.

(that is nurseries, pre-schools etc... although not clear at all as in all other parts of the EYFS 2014 they call Group Provision 'Early years providers other than childminders'. Yet another example of shoddy, inconsistent writing from Dept of Ed.)

we are not group provision so you are okay but you giving them an induction into food hygiene would go along way with an inspection
