Has anyone done a blackboard wall?

I really want to paint a big square on my wall but the paint stinks... just wondering if it continues to smell once the wall's been painted!

I bought some of that blackboard roll it sticks to the wall.. Pound shop sometimes do it. I
Think you can move it when u want

My only problem is chalking continues onto wall and worried little ones will write on walls
At home so thinking I might frame it

I have screwed the blackboard side of a wooden kids easel to the wall, complete with the wooden frame... does the job!

Paint usually smells in the tin (thinking of emulsion or gloss household paint) but once dry it is fine. Never tried blackboard paint but probably similar. Paint a bit on something to test out if you are worried.

my friend has painted a blackboard wall , cant say Ive ever noticed a smell tbh!

I have painted using blackboard paint it's fine once dried.

I pained above my cooker ( obviously not for kiddies to use lol)

What a clever idea! We had a new kitchen 4 years ago and knew we didn't want tiles, dh didn't want the stainless steel I wanted so we thought glass. We haven't had it done yet and I think if truth be known I ma scared it might get broken.

Black board paint is inspired I think I might do that while dh is away and surprise him. I can write messages and they can't be missed as the hob is opposite the kitchen door and between the kettle and the bread bin!

OP no I wouldn't Black Board paint any part of my wall for the children the same way I would paper the wall with the colouring in wall paper.

In my book walls are not for writing on and it is difficult to teach children the difference between when it is and isn't allowed.

I have a table, an easel and I tape long stripes of paper down outside.

I have individual black boards for chalking at the table.

I have a large chalk board outside and am about to get some shaped ones.

Still, that was back in the days of blackboards. Back in the days when you could call it a "blackboard" - or even say the word "naughty" - without being shot down in flames by the Educational PC Thought Police. :p

I have a friend who's son suddenly began scribbling all over her walls. She discovered he had been using a drawing wall at pre-school and just carried it on at home

It was the first thing i bought lol!! I had one in my under 2's when i was at nursery and the children loved it... also loved the walls which is a pain to clean though...

I painted a chalk baord in our playroom. My little one loves it and has never drawn on the walls. She knows its only on the black.

I used the laura ashley paint and didnt even use a quarter of the tin.

Only thing that annoys me is chalk dust on my skirting board

That looks really good!

I've got a rainbow chalk board where you don't use it with chalk, you use it with rainbow pens (they're like whiteboard pens but work on chalkboards) x

I was going to say about the chalk dust too :( it's bad enough on a little board, never mind on the wall :( I prefer chalking on the slabbed patio, then I just hose it down before DH sees it - drives him mad, tho why I've never quite worked out :angry:

My DH hates the children chalking on our patio too!
Inside I have the chalk side of the painting easel always available. I did have a 'stick on' blackboard ( from gltc? ) at my old house .. But there was no where to keep the chalk. With the easel I have the tray to keep chalk in one place :-)

Keep the chalks slightly damp, you don't get the dust then. I also use wet chalk on dark paper brilliant pictures no dust, it stays put.

You had it easy. I went to a rough school where the teacher would throw the big wooden blackboard rubber, not the chalk. :p

Ive been in a class where the teachers trainer was thrown at someone who was being lippy :-)
