Hi,
This is going to be the first time i've worked through the 6 weeks summer holidays!!
So i was just wondering what sort of activities you all get up to with you LOs through
the summer?

Thanks

For years now I have done a nature hunt. Depending on the age of the children I either write them a list of items to find or I print pictures on A4 sheet and laminate it. They all have bags and we go off to the woods / lake to find the items. Some of the older ones have to use their imagination to find an "interesting" item too and explain when we get back why they think it is interesting. We then have an award / certificate ceremony when we get back. All the children love it and ask to do it again each year.

Just a few ideas there then ;-)

And a few more...

We visit local castles pretending to be kings and queen's.
fossil hunting.
Exploring / den making in the woods.
Playing in local streams making dams/boat races/pondlife hunting.
Geocaching ... This summer we are going to place one of our own :-)

The older ones love to empty my craft boxes out and write an inventory and tell me what needs renewing! ... usually do this at the end of the holidays :-)

Check your local library - they often do a reading challenge or activity sessions. Also, see if your local LEA or surestart centres have any fun days planned. These are nice because for once you don't have to do the thinking - you just turn up and have fun! Also, don't feel bad about having a dvd session - the little ones are on holiday too and need to switch off and just chill sometimes. How old are the kids? x

They are 2, 3 ,4 and 5.
Trying to find some fun days out sounds like a good idea, i'll definitely look at that. Its going to be strange for me working the whole 6 weeks, i've always been lucky enough to have it off before this year :)
