IPPR latest research calls for all families to get help with childcare cost

They suggest the 15 hrs be extended to all 2 year olds while 3 and 4 year olds should get the 15 hrs over 48 weeks not 38 as at present.

Interesting but....while CMs could extend to 48 weeks how would a preschool or a school extend to 48 weeks?
This is quite thought provoking

also is there any hint that the funding for the 'subsidised' childcare would be increased and brought to a level that reflects all the qualifications they suggest the workforce should have and 'cost of delivering' the so much talked about 'high quality'??

What are your thoughts?

It could probably be done within a school if there was flexibility. A school would have to deliver 19 hours a week term time only, so would have to extend their running times slightly to meet that running say 8-4 and employing lunchtime cover. Our school already runs extended hours just to fit in the three hours with a lunch break in the middle, so the break cover would be their only real problem. And if 2 year olds are to be cloistered in schools from 8-6 anyway, then cover and extending hours won't present much of a problem.

I wonder if cms in the future will just be glorified out of school/nursery clubs.

I think theyre looking at cms etc covering the holiday care.... the school as the main 'setting' and agency ...cms covering before and after school and holiday care...remember we will be able to 'mind' 30 children after 330 and in hols in school halls......amazing really when Im only capable of having 3 the rest of the time!
