I know there has been a few threads about childminders signing passports and plenty of debate.

In the past I have signed passports however today I thought I would phone the passport agency and check if childminders are able to sign.
The person I spoke to was really nice and I explained about being registered with OFSTED and having to have a DBS etc, but he wasn't sure so went to speak with his manager. He came back and told me that childminders are not authorised to sign passports.
The person who needed the passport signing also phoned and was told the same that childminders are unable to sign a passport form.

So it looks like we are unable to sign passports and that's according to HM Passport office.

Can I add that first passports can take six weeks not three as they tell you on the save and send service.

Interesting, as I've done 4 since being a childminder and theyve all come back fine.

Although I do it in the capacity of being a member of a professional body, PACEY.
