Hello everyone.

Hope you are all enjoying the sun today.

Just wondering if anyone had any good activity ideas for a 2 year old?

It's his second day with me today - but he is here all next week so want to start planning some things to do.

I have observed a lot this week, and he needs some work on communication and language but apart from talking lots and looking at picture books/flash cards etc I'm not sure where to start.

Thanks

If he's a newbie then I would plan a few bits such as...
Painting, messy/sensory play, construction, puzzles, stories and singing etc...however I would follow his lead:

For example, if you know he likes trains set up sensory tray with sand/glitter/shaving foam (or whatever you fancy) with trains to push around...lots of talking about trains colour, shape, noises they make etc.

Or if he's really into craft...maybe set out some junk modelling items, glue, tape, paints etc...

Take a look at these for some more ideas...happy playing :D

I agree with Sarah - follow his lead for now and pop in some extra language based activities. I use a combination of letters and Sounds, Toddler Talk - lots of different strategies to support communication, listening etc... but mostly we sing, talk and read books - the rest is in our normal daily routines for this age group :D
