Oh dear. Do you keep a record anywhere else of times & dates?

Start again in your new book & keep hunting for your old one. Presumably it must be in the house somewhere? I'm not sure what Ofsted's view would be on it, I'm afraid.

I do keep a daily register, but I also note children & times in my diary. It isn't really any more work, but means I do have a record should the register get lost.

Mouse - thanks so much!! I write them in my diary too :)
Having a pain moment and didn't think of my diary lol , silly me.
Will keep hunting but I had a massive clear out at the weekend and think it may have got mixed up with the throw away pile that has now gone to the tip :( x

Obviously my 'like' is for you having a record in your diary, not for you having chucked it out with the rubbish!!

All my attendance is done on the computer, all children have their own folders and it is organised in to monthly folders and then archived yearly. I also back it all up on an 'off site server' so if my laptop breaks or is stolen I still have access to all my work...

This way I don't have to spend money, have loads of books clogging everything up nor do I have to worry about print outs!

If it's in the diary then great but if that hadn't been the case I would just have said that the old one was full and archived in the loft, if Ofsted questioned the lack of entries.

Really? What if Mrs O then insisted you find it for her, archived or not?
I mislaid my attendance record this week (thankfully now found) and was concerned that I'd have to 'fess up if unexpectedly inspected.

Start new one. If Ofsted are not due for months, it could be the case that that one is or could have been archived. When I had my Inspection in the April I had started a new book in March and she never questioned or asked to see previous months attendance.
Then maybe it will just turn up one day

I start a new Pacey Attendance Register every April. I then put the previous years one in the loft with my accounts and the folders of any children who have left in the year and there is no way i would go in the loft and get it for an inspector.

Ofsted need to see current practice and current documentation...if an inspector wanted to see my past 21 years of archived docs we could be having a picnic in my office...never mind an inspection!!

Past registers are very useful should any 'complaint' arise from parents or other matters but instead of buying one every year why not invest in a good one that will last for years?

I started my current one in 2008 and it is still going strong and has another 2 years of use...investing money in a good register will save money in the end....even better devise your own and make it personal to your setting with your trademark and copyright:thumbsup:

My concern would be what other information is in this register that may or may not have gone to the tip - In the PACEY register it lets you record children's full names, addresses, phone numbers, DOB, doctors details, days and times the children attend - I think you should notify the parents that this has happened - hopefully the tip is a worse case scenario - hopefully it will turn up under the sofa.

But parents need to informed just in case they get people turn up at their doors claiming to be health visitors or from social services and wanting to take or examine the children - they have all the information that they need to be plausible!

Glad it has turned up, just wondering if anyone keeps a log on the computer and if so what software they use? X
