Artificial grass

Hi

Does anyone have artificial grass ? Do they recommend it ? How much did you pay ?

Our garden is always boggy and horrible . It's not huge but would prefer something more manageable and that will allow me to let the children out more without having to worry about it getting ruined - dont mind the kids going out and getting muddy its more about my garden looking horrible bare and boggy :-(

I do! It's the best thing I've done. My garden is about 15 square metres, so it wasn't a huge expense. We had it done about 2 years ago and it cost £1500 with fitting. Like yours, my garden was a bog for much of the year! We go out loads now. It so good in the summer, just like carpet. When it rains is obviously wet but it does dry very quickly.

Boris, which companies did you use? That sounds like a really good price in comparison to others I've heard for a similar size. I'd love to have mine done. I'd like the children to be able to go out & not get massively muddy (after school parents really don't like it!) - getting damp isn't such a problem. Our garden is clay and doesn't drain well at all, it's always muddy until we have a long spell of dry weather. So muddy I don't feel it's safe for the children to run round as well as the garden being completely wrecked.

I had funding for mine so the LA paid for it. I have had it for 2 half years. The company was called nomow. They even had a specialised team who were all crb checked so they were sent to schools, nurseries and childminders. I went for the medium length of turf and it came to £1600

Iv just done mine for £50!!!!! We go a roll end which was perfect size for my garden! Should have cost a few 100 quid an then fitting on top would have been a lot more, but hubby is a dab hand an researched an picked the brains of people who fit it an he fitted it him self! I love it best thing I did no more muddy feet!!!

I want to get some but my budget won't stretch to paying for fitting as well unfortunately!

And where did you go to get it for £50. I need quite a bit but that's - fraction of the cheapest quote I've had!

I had mine fitted but watching the guys doing it, I'm sure my hubby could have done it. They leveled out any big lumps and removed any big stones (just used a spade to chop off any sticky our clumps of grass and mud). Then laid a sheet of anti-weed membrane on the top of the existing grass. They put strips of wood (about 1"x1") all around the edge and hammered nails down to secure it. Then they covered that with a layer of sand and rolled the astroturf out on the top like a carpet. They used those carpet stretcher things that you bash with your knee! They hammered nails through the grass into the wood bit. (you can't see or feel them though so don't know if they were special nails?) It only took a couple of hours.

We've watched some videos on YouTube about it so I reckon we can do it between us. Our garden is a hideous Concrete mess. I just think the grass will be nicer for the kids to play on and so much prettier,

I have samples of artifical grass in our dinosaur box, farm set, under the sea creatures and divers box! Still haven't got round to having any in the garden though :D
