Unfortunately I forgot to register myself for the data protection act and as I am trying to do it now, instead of paying £35 registration it's saying that if your business has been registered for over a month I have to pay £500?
Any experience of this?
I'm so awful having not done this before...

It should be £35. It's a bit complicated but shouldn't be that much

Don't do it online ring them up, it's £35 for chikdminders, so much easier on the phone.

I did mine online and like you I didn't do it straight away as our la had advised us incorrectly but it only cost me £35 not £500

It's only £35.
When you go through the questions at the end it asks:
7b. Does your organisation have more than 249 staff?
Yes Go to 7c.
No The fee for your organisation will be £35. Go to 8.
When you go to question 8 it's the signature and date.
You skip all the other options (7c-7e) where it says about having been registered for more than a year.
