I am very confused and now annoyed about this 'rule' that I cant have any one in my home during working hours. It just doesnt make sense to me. I dont have people in and out on a daily basis but think if parents want a home from home setting then friends would come to play, and maybe stay for lunch. In my mind this is all about children learning to socialise.

We go to groups on a weds and thurs morning but are at home from 7.30 till 6 other than that.

Anyway just wondered if any other minders on here live in northern ireland. I find it hard to believe that all minders over here stick to this rule

That seems like a very odd rule ziggy - are you able to contact your regulatory body and discuss it?

I know in England we have to be careful about visitors and they are not allowed in unsupervised contact with the children - so if we leave the room they have to leave too for example - but nobody has told us we can't have them round!!

I hope you get to the bottom of it xx

This is what i plan to do today, I have been up very early going through the 'minimum standards' book and all other paperwork but cant find anything which states no one can visit during working hours. Just thought maybe someone else on here may be living over here and could help. I am so careful about doing everything 'by the book' and am devastated this has happened.

Hi Ziggy I'm from Norn Ireland ....I m not aware of this rule . Though I need to go over that minimum standards booklet more thoroughly .
My niece was trying to arrange a meet up and said to me " I know you don't like visitors when you're working " I think she remembered this from staying with me when she was wee. It was a self imposed rule ii had because I didn't want friends and family coming and waiting to be danced attendance on and the wee ones getting neglected .
But my wee dotes and I love people coming now that everyone's aware I do actually have a "job" . Parents love it too , I think they re glad I'm in contact with the outside world . They trust me completely that I will be sensible about who will be here and I m completely open about who comes and goes . Im sure I mentioned visitors with my social worker at inspection ( in relation to discussing one wee one being shy at visitors until he got to know them) and she was quite positive about it.
I know our inspections are going,to change next year . I really hope this isn't a rule . !
