I've just booked my 4 children in with a childminder for every Tuesday in the holidays.

I'll still be working while they are there but I thought it would give them a change of senery for a bit and a break from the children I look after.

I can claim 80% of childcare fees back though my working tax credits fortunatly as £140 for 1 days care a week sounded a bit scary!

The other child minder has booked her daughter in with me for every Friday as thats her really busy day and the only day I have a space, again her daughter will get a change and a break from the other children in her house.

My children are really excited about it, they have never been in childcare before. My 6 year old has been begging me for months to let her go to a childminder cause "it's not fair we'll never go cause you are the childminder!" She cried with excitement when I told her this morning!

£140 for one day?

Yes £140.

8am - 6pm (my mum will take them/collect them on her way to work/home)

10 hour day x £3.50 per hour = £35 X 4 children = £140

I'll still be sending packed lunches, they'll only get snacks provided. I'll do their tea for when they get home.

£3.50 is the going rate in this area and no one locally provides food.

Thats nice that your children get a change of senery like you say - it will be good for them. Its also good that you get help with tax credits, makes tings easier for you.

I like the way the other minder is also using you on a Friday - you kind of earn it back i guess?

Good on you & hope your kids enjoy themselves :)

She offered and I told her not too. It's only for 7 weeks so it wouldn't have been fair to have a discount.

Only £28 has to come directly out of my pocket anyhow and I'll earn that back again with the £35 I'm charging her for having her daughter for the day.

I know I won't make anything from it but my children will gain from the experience.

I have 4 full time mindees at present, I don't want my own children to have to spend every day for 7 weeks with the same children, I think they'd explode!

my youngest used to go to a childminder and the other 2 were so jealous of all the fun she had while they were at school

Great idea - pity no-one takes 15 and 17 year old's otherwise I could send my 4 to the childminder for the day!!!!!!!!!!! :clapping: :clapping:

The youngest sometimes moans about me having the mindees in the holidays as we can't always go out and about, but a quick reminder that at least he gets to stay at home with his own things, tv and gamecube, and doesn't have to get up early (my school age one comes at 7.30 am), to go to childminder or grannies usually, shuts him up for a while!!!!!!!!!!

I've put my 4 year old in one morning a week at the out of school club. I only done it as my bil gf runs it. Also i didn't want him to get use to being with me 24/7 when he starts school in sept. Im a bit worried but im sure he will love it.
