We're thinking of putting down patio paving stones of 25 sq ft in the middle of our garden since the dog and hens have ruined our grass.
Has anyone done anything like this and can give me feedback as to cost and if it worked out for you?. I'm hoping to give the mindees some smooth ground for sit and ride vehicles.

Watching this as we are thinking of getting the same done. I don't think it's the cheapest option around but I reckon worth the investment.

It would depend entirely on the sort of paving you chose - you could get a bog standard paving slab at a couple of pounds each or you could go for a natural stone which would cost you about 10 times the price

Try looking at the wickes website

Wickes DIY - Home Improvement Products for Trade and DIY (http://www.wickes.co.uk/paving+walling/paving-slabs/icat/phdpaving/#?sort=price&parentCategoryRef=phdpaving&order=asc&q=*&_suid=138533019360902777505310840107)

You will need to prepare the ground thoroughly to ensure all slabs are laid level, but you may want a very slight slope to help the rain run off.

We are in the process of getting an extension and new garden patio.

we have had quotes for 35 square foot of paving, it's natural stone and the prices range from £3500 to over £8000

I was told I picked the most expensive stone :o

If you're not fussy, and/or prepared to search around, you might get slabs for free or very little money. People are often prepared to give them away to anyone who will collect to clear them off their property. You just need time to look; suitable transport; and a little muscle to do the moving.

We got nearly 2 dozen slabs this way from 2 different sources. I once managed to get close to 100 this way for an allotment when I was working with a community food project. :)
