In all my years of childminding I have looked after relatively few girls. I currently have 7 EYs children on my books - 5 boys & 2 girls. There have been times when I've had no girls at all, all boys.

A cm friend was saying how she's looked after nearly all girls and has very few enquiries for boys. I have very few enquiries for girls.

Have you had a mix, or do you tend to have more of one sex than the other?

Mostly boys - have 6 boys at the moment and only one girl, she is quite girlie but also is up for rough and tumble and getting muddy on walks with the boys. Over the last 8+ years I haven't had many girls at all - felt strange to start with as I have 3 grown up daughters of my own but now I am used to having "boys" toys everywhere which is just as well as now I have a grandson too!

Bazaarly it does often swing one way or the other, when I first started it was all boys and 1 girl and was predominantly boys for a long time, now I have more girls than boys, I don't think I have ever had an even mix.

mainly boys tbh. The area is very boy heavy but I know childminders that have predominantly girls and I have predominantly boys. no idea why
just checked my register cos this got me curious - in the time I've been childminding its been 18 boys and 7 girls but the girls seem to only do 1 day or 2 at a push!

My boys seem to come as babies and stay with me until they go to school, the girls either start as babies and then leave for Nursery or start as 2 year olds and just stay a year and leave for Nursery. I generally find though that the children who start as babies do tend to be stayers but the ones who start later just come for a while - I think their parents can see all the hard work I put in when they were babies and are a little more understanding of the requirements when new babies start with me.

At the moment I am dead equal. 3 boys, 3 girls. I have 3 days with 1 space each and have had enquiries from 1 girl and 2 boys. I also have the sister of one of my new LOs on an ad hoc contract (not had her yet though). Another boy starts in Feb.

3 boys and 8 girls at the moment.
At one point I had 15 boys and no girls at all!
The boys consisted of 5 with the same first name plus 4 with the same first name plus another 4 with the same first name - the other 2 had different first names to the others HOW CONFUSING WAS THAT!!!!!!
Still makes my headache.

That's crazy!!! How did you call them when you had two the same day with the same name?!

Mostly girls always! Have always had one or two boys but at any time could have 6/7 on my books so quite a high percentage of girls. Just had one boy all summer when another left but have had another one start now part time so some male company for him!

Mostly boys overall, which my daughter wasn't too happy with lol. It's better now because we have 2 girls but she used to whine that there were too many boy toys xx

Does it matter??

No, it was just a fun interesting chatty conversation, fun to see how patterns seem to emerge, no need to bring it down.

Me in 10 years have had approx 17 girls and 8 boys.

It's funny as my daughters class at school (she is 11) has 24 pupils in it but only 9 of them are girls! It is such a rowdy boisterous class too!! On the plus side the girls are very close as so few if them. There is no other class at their age group.

My youngest daughter is 7 and her class is pretty much even boys and girls and its a lovely balance. She has friends coming out her ears tho as there are 3 classes at her age group!!

Funny how it can be so different from one age group to the next! Xx
