I am struggling to keep up with observations, assessment and planning. The children I look after are aged mostly under 2's and basically I am doing planning 'to the moment'. I am doing observations, next steps weekly as well as post it notes daily, and assessments monthly. With planning its difficult because they are so young, I am focussing on the prime aspects and letting the children lead the way with consolidation and extension of their interests and skills. Is this enough? Also how do people manage when a child attends say on Monday and Thursday and another child attends one and a half days a week? I panicked when I saw the thread on observation forms.

For this age group your next steps = individual planning and that's the most important type of planning you can do.

Watch - listen - think about what they might enjoy doing next - write it up 'in the moment' or later :D
