One of my parents had just sent me a text telling me young one (18mths) has conjonctivitis and has been given drops to clear it. I have search on various medical websites and it looks like there is no need to keep them away from the setting. In my policies (which I copied from an already established CM) I state that children with infectious illnesses should not come back until the period given by the Social Services guidelines. The thing is, I can't find a specific guideline anywhere regarding this particular illness! I also have a 9 months old mindee, on top of my own children.
What are your own takes on this one?

Conjunctivitis is not considered an excludable disease ...

However, it is down to what you have written in your policies...

If you have said you will exclude then you should, to protect other children from catching the illness.

I hope with medication by tomorrow the little one should be a lot better :D

I would exclude until it's treated and cleared up

I know this is no longer the official line but conjunctivitis is very easily spread and can be really painful plus I don't think other parents would be too happy if their lo's caught it whilst at my setting

Good luck whatever you decide

Thank you all for the replies, I have just informed the parents to keep little man until the eyes stop weeping, to be on the safe side. I might have taken the risk if he was my only mindee, but ultimately I have to put the health of the other little one first. Gosh, I do hate having to be tough!
