I have some of these and I want to use them to assist a 3 year old who has difficulties sounding out words and letters correctly.

I have got them out for him to play with and he is more interested in shouting into them!

Any ideas, tips?

I also have 3 year old who doesn't pronounce words properly and was thinking of getting something to record her as if I copy what she says eg; tat instead of cat she can hear that it is wrong so thought it would be useful if she could hear how she says things but the pegs on the link are so expensive - anyone know of cheaper ones or can you buy these individually?

No sorry I don't know of anywhere that sells any cheaper, they are more expensive in amazon.

I am in the middle of creating a sound box so I thought of using them with this but I don't think that they will grab his attention.

Many thanks, more within my budget -

handeme - if you look at the link below which is for an activity book you can use with the sound tins, you could get some ideas on how you can use your sound pegs.

We have the pegs and use them in a variety of ways.
I've printed off the hungry caterpillar and recorded the words to go with the pictures, the children peg them up in order and tell the story, I've had parents record a bit too which the children really like.
Used them for treasure hunt so recorded clues
Made dens with them and recorded messages on the pegs.
Send pegs home for family to record messages.
To begin with I spoke into the pegs and the children listened and tried to repeat the sounds. Then I would record the children without the being aware and then played it back to them, left them to play with and shout in them. Now they will talk into them, they know to talk slowly Into them and include them in their play such as when setting up a sandwich shop my four year old mindee recorded we are closed/open on the pegs.

Talking tins (I think that is what they are called) are quite cheap.

Have you tried using a mirror to let him see the shapes of your mouth when you make individual sounds? I use this a lot with DD and we talk about how we make each sound - tongue between the teeth, tongue behind the teeth etc.

I bought a toy talking parrot that flaps and repeats back the last thing that is said.
It has helped slow speakers and is very entertaining at meal times.

As s nanny one boy had a parrot that repeated everything. It was such fun when we had visitors. Great idea for a child who leaved parts oc speech out.
