My ds really struggles with no2's too.

He often passes blood when he does go, it's just where they end up being so big it tears him :(
I would wait to see what the doc says.

He need lots of liquids. Get mum to go to chemist and buy some Califig, worked so much better than lactulose for my boy.

I would accept only after visit to doc and only if doc says OK. I would also tell mum I'd call if I was worried. Hope lo is OK, must be a horrid experience.

I'd accept the child. Why not? It's horrible for both child and carer to watch them struggling but I can't see why you wouldn't take a child on this reason. Maybe I'm being naive here - can anyone explain why you wouldn't?

I looked after lo who suffered with this for over a year. It was awful and he would scream and cry each time. He would hold on so only went every 3/4 days. The problem resolved when he toilet trained. I could not have refused to care for him as it was all a very long process and parents needed to work.

I would take the child. Hopefully doc will refer them to a specialist nurse who will be able to help. Poor little one xx

Problem is she does not drink. She does not like prune juice. Parent does not like her having any other juice. She refuses water and will have just the one bottle of soya milk. She does well with food and fruit.

I would suggest that parents give her really weak juice made with pure juice not squash. If she's not drinking any water at all then some really weak juice is better for her than nothing. It's hard to balance out the need for liquids and the tooth decay which I'm assuming that they're worrying about but if she's that constipated then the need to get some liquids into her totally outweighs the tooth worry at the moment.

We make flapjacks with linseeds and finely chopped prunes and apricots in which are really good cure for constipation. Most children hate prunes but all my mindees eat the flapjacks with no complaints. We use honey in them instead of syrup so they're a bit healthier.

The blood should only be slight and noticeable when bottom is wiped as it is caused by small tear (like piles), child shouldn't be actually losing blood of any quantity. I would rather a child drank weak squash rather than drank nothing at all - which is definitely not helping with constipation.

Would love
The recipe for these Helen. My dd is a sufferer!

3 bananas
50g butter
3 tbsp honey
60g dried fruit, I don't measure the fruit though, just chuck it in until it looks ok. I always use more than 60g.
250g oats
1 tbsp linseeds
Bake at 160c for 15mins.

You can substitute the butter for coconut oil to make them healthier and add desicated coconut. The bananas probably aren't good for constipation though. If you google honey flapjack with no sugar, there's lots of good recipes.

We make a fruit bars aswell that you can add prunes and apricots to. You basically just blend dried dates to use as a base for the bar and then you can add whatever blended fruit, nuts and seeds to make bars that you chill in the fridge for a few hours. Google homemade Larabar for recipes and different flavours.

50% fresh apple juice added to 50% water works a treat. Nurse recommended it over orange juices etc and I have to say whenever my own little one is struggling (every few weeks or so) this is what I give her. Within 30 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes it just flushes her out and the relief is noticeable.

My daughter suffered for years with this we were prescribed movicol which you dilute on to a drink - I tried everything to relieve her when she was in pain to pass stools it's awful - although not her fault can't not accept because of this - I find orange cordial with hot water ( hot enough to drink) works wonders ! Sure the doctors will help with that eventually but I would suggest to the parents if she won't drink the water or prime juice them to face normal juice it's better than letting her become dehydrated which makes the problem worse

Bananas are very binding and are known to cause constipation, not relieve it :(

I look after a little girl and we have been through this recently. She is now on medication which is helping and
She doesn't drink a lot either and eats very little in the way of fruit and veg. Doesn't like anything. I'm trying my hardest to get her into basic peas and sweetcorn at the moment and with encouragement she's been trying a bit.
She also has a poo chart lol.
Can't recommened this website enough....

Let's Talk About Poo (http://www.eric.org.uk/Campaigns/LetsTalkAboutPoo)

I'd definitely take the child on. It won't last forever.

Well she is starting nursery this week and has now left me. It would be interesting how nursery will help with this child as I have bent over backwards by changing days when parents wanted to swap days etc without charging for doing so etc. numerous medication forms nappy rash plus the constipation. Dairy free diet.etc
