I was just wondering what everyone's opinions were on the new early years teachers. I'm doing my top up year for my ba at uni in september but have been offered the chance to also do the early years teacher training. I'm just a little concerned that although they are saying it will been seen as equal to qts (I know not the same, can't teach in maintained schools etc) it actually won't be.

The eyps was introduced and alot of people spent time achieving their status only for our to be under valued in the sector. I don't really want to dedicate the extra time to gaining such a qualification if this is going to happen again.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

You are right, it won't gain you any more status or pay, you will not be a 'real' teacher, there are no jobs out there. The government have made a mockery out of the system and of early years practitioners, that being said I did my EYP for my own personal professional development. If I was you, yes I would do it. It is free and not many things these days are. You will learn so much, your practice will improve, it is an extra qualification one which your competitors may not have, it is the highest qualification in the early years you can have, one day it might come in handy. Go for it,
