confused about tax return

I am confused. Had a letter from hmrc to complete a self assesment. On the letter it says it needs to be completed 3 months after the date of letter which is beginnjng of july. However reading online it doesnt need to be sent back until much later?

Also once I send this back when do they decide if I pay tax or not, having probs logging on onljne so may send paper one

If you were sending a paper one in you would need to have it done by 31st October if you wanted them to calculate it.
