I have a colleague who at present has a son who is getting into a lot of trouble with the police. She has Ofsted coming round tomorrow and has been asked what she would do if the police arrived while she was minding!! Any ideas, would be extremely grateful.

It depends on the type of police visits to a large extent. If it's the local policeman calling round to have a chat then that's one thing and they can go in another room... if it's the riot squad in full gear with guns ready to raid her house then I'd be surprised if Ofsted will let her carry on working.
Her best defence is probably to say that she will make sure her son isn't on the premises during working hours - Ofsted are likely to require that anyway. Then if police do come she can explain he's not there and they will have to find him or come back later.
