"A company supplying “free” milk to nursery children under a government scheme has collapsed with huge debts after charging taxpayers up to 92p a pint.
Scotts Distribution, which supplied milk to 8,000 schools, nurseries and childminders, had been suspended from the scheme after allegations that it had over-claimed.
The Government is reviewing the future of the scheme, which supplies 1.5 million children aged under five, after costs doubled in only three years.
The Department of Health said that it had suspended Scotts after more than 3,000 of the company’s payment claims were disputed by childcare providers.
Scotts expanded rapidly in the three years after it was created. In the first year of operating it had a turnover from milk sales of £3.7 million, which almost doubled to £7.3 million the following year.
Joseph Sadler, the liquidator, estimates that the company has a financial deficit of £1 million.
Mr and Mrs Scott vehemently denied any deliberate wrongdoing yesterday but admitted making “a lot of mistakes”. They blamed customers for over-claiming for milk without their knowledge."
Scotts Owner also owe the staff thounds in unpaid wages, because we stayed loyal as a work force only to be lied to!
