I already have 1 assistant. My husband is about to become unemployed so was thinking of him becoming 2nd assistant as he is already checked and registered as assistant. Would this allow me to have 9 children at one time also would I need planning permission and any other things

Sorry but i dont know the answer. At a guess i would think it depends on your local area about planning permission and space would be the other thing with upping your numbers.

You would need to measure space and contact Ofsted I think....

Go for it

If you have the space and 'planning' to my knowledge is needed for 10 children or more, so bare that in mind and off course the usual checks need to be in place and don't forget insurance some liability cover has a maximum number of children covered at one time, but even if you don't have the alloted 9, it's a good idea to have your husband as 'back up'.

Just be careful that your relationship with your husband can stand 24/7 contact

Also check with numbers of adults registered because at some stage you stop being a childminder and become something else - different rules and new registration number.

why doesn't your DH become a childminder?
