Hi all,

DD,4, has tonsillitis. She is on antibiotics but they haven't properly kicked in yet. She has a temperature and is obviously hot to touch but is shivering and wanting the blanket. I feel so mean not letting her have the blanket. I have given her a very thin cotton baby blanket but she is asking for more. What do I do? She is taking calpol and nurofen. x

Do I strip her and just make her shiver? She's had lots of fevers in the past but never shivered at the same time and so stripping her off always seemed fine in those circumstances. x

I would keep the room warm and use a lightweight blanket not a thick one. Lots of water and maybe a cold flannel on forehead :)

This is what I would do though not drs advice

Tonsillitis can make them feel quite poorly, until antibiotics start to kick in, like you said. Try and get her to take plenty of fluids, even lttle sips, or suck on an ice lolly, cos you dont want to her to become dehydrated. Dont wrap her up in a blanket even though she wants it cos she will overheat even more.

Hope she feels better soon
