Logging toy cleaning???

Mu DO also asked me to log my toy cleaning!!!
Has anyone any idea how to do this?
Art present i sign my diary every day to say my health and safety check list has been done and that is listed on it...

I agree with Sarah - tell her that her demands are unreasonable and carry on doing your paperwork your way.

Remember they are only there to give you help and advice and you can ignore it if it doesn't suit :thumbsup:

She gave me an amber on my RAG for not logging that i had cleaned my toys on a daily basis...this is the letter I have just written:

Hi *** again,

I am going thru your notes and see I got an amber for not logging my cleaning of toys. I don't really see how to do this other than what I was doing - ie it was listed on my daily list of health and safety tasks and it was signed for every morning in my diary as i showed you.

I'm sure you'll agree there is no way I can log each toy being cleaned?

Please advise me on how I am supposed to do this?

I am trying ever so hard to be grateful to her for her input and keeping up the front of being appreciative for being helped so much (haha) .... but at a certain point it gets ridiculous. I cant affoprd to fall out with her...it would cost me too much nervous energy and she is truly a force to be reckoned with.....

I would also ask her to point out where in the EYFS it says that you have to log the cleaning of toys as you have a very good knowledge of it and can't seem to find it mentioned anywhere ;)

point her to the EYFS stat requirement that says 'that paperwork should not be burdensome and impact on the time you spend with the children'

Even when I worked at a nursery all I had was a list of toys written at the back of my note book and I ticked it off when I did it. Did them all then started back at the beginning. I never dated it. And the nursery never wrote down a thing so I don't see why you should.

Omg, life is tooooooo short, if they can't take our word that we are cleaning them then they shouldn't trust us with kids at all, ridiculous.

:o I used to do this :o I had a list of all my toys and would work through the list cleaning about 5 sets of toys a week. When I started minding 4 years ago, I listened to everything DO told me. However, I now realise that their jobs are dependant on showing improvements to childminders, so they have a lot more to gain from me spending all my time on such tasks than me!
I don't have a cleaning rota anymore! I clean the toys when they need it.
I reckon all DO should have to spend a week shadowing a c/m. I know alot of them used to be c/m's but I think alot have forgotten how demanding the job is without all these 'extras'.

I really like the letter you have written to her - it is tactful and yet straight to the point, it states what you do and asks what she thinks you should do. I don't think you can do anymore - other than put it along with any response into your diary where you currently log your cleaning etc so you can point it out to anyone in the future.

I don't have a cleaning list for my toys. I certainly don't clean them every day! If there are children constantly chewing or sneezing I will give them a wipe or if they have a mark or are dusty if it's something that hasn't been out for a while. But that's about it! Oh of course the fabric toys would be popped in the wash etc too.

I know its not quite the same thing, but my DO told me that it didnt look good that some of my books had slighlty curling corners. I have some lovely books and I could understand it if they were ripped, but surely curly corners are a sign of a well read and loved book. I think they run out of things to say sometimes

I agree they need to show how they are improving us..... I like the idea of logging her comments with my letter to her in my notes...my god.. all this logging!!

So glad I don't have a do. When I did have one she told me that I had to get the parents to sign giving me permission to inform social services if there was abuse. Then she saw it and went mad telling me it was bad. They have to justify their job.

When the leadership & management team did my Quality assurance audit a few years ago, they came up with the ridiculous cleaning rota too. Just to keep them quiet I printed and laminated this sheet so I could write/wipe off . Just add or change as and where. Thought it might help and give you something to show them :)

I have also been told this is good practice and I should do it. I was then told I needed to log the temperature of my fridge twice a day! I have decided to take take all the 'advice' and decide if it is right for me (or not).

I have so many toys my list would be huge! Good idea to laminate a sheet and tick that. Love the tick box culture!

I have also been told to log the temp of the fridge.... I'm not going to. On my daily check list it says check fridge is between ... And ... And I sign that it is. Nuff said!

I've just given 6 toy boxes of toys a wipe down with baby wipes, shoved 2 wash loads of dolls and teddies in the washing machine, they are all drying on the radiators and my house smells lush! Lol
Funny that I then come on here and see this thread :D
Only reason I've done it is i have a family coming in a few days to have a look around and I sooo need the money!! Haha!!
Seriously tho, the whole point if the new EYFS is to REDUCE paperwork! I have never and will never log toy cleaning, my toys get cleaned as and when needed! End of :D

OMG what an absolute joke. if we seriously logged everything we would never spend time with the children. When i started i had a daily tick list of all the checks i did - cleared up dog mess in the garden, checked fridge temp, emptied bins etc etc, the list went on and on. i soon stopped doing it. when i did my food hygeine course the trainer talked a lot about just logging what was wrong rather than everything that was right - e.g. log if fridge temp wasn't correct and write what action i took, i've now taken that tact with other areas - e.g logging if i discard a broken toy rather than ticking to say they are all safe.
