National insurance

Hi I only registered last month, but I'm confused about what I have to do for national insurance. I registered on the hmrc website for self assessment tax thingy, but didn't know if I had to do something else for the national insurance. If that makes sense?

Hi, have you actually rang the tax office to tell them you are self-employed? Not sure if registering on the self assessment will set the
NI into motion, I would contact them direct just in case (if no already done). Once the notification has been made they send you a bill for your
class 2 contribution, it now comes 6 monthly and then when you do do your tax on line it works out your class 4 NI payment on what you
have earned.(sp)
