I forwarded Sarah's information to the National Children's Bureau, along with ET's letter to Northampton childminders. This was the reply which includes a link to their survey. They would like as many childminders as possible to add their comments.

Thank you for keeping me informed about developments. I have set up a survey for our networks to feed back their views on the More Great Childcare proposals. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/childcarereform

NCB will be doing work on the childcare agency proposals through the Children and Families Bill. The survey will inform our position, so I would encourage you and your fellow childminders to fill it in. We envisage responses to inform early years policy and lobbying work we do over the coming months.

Best wishes

Heather

I have just completed this one and I have to say out of all the surveys so far this has the most relevant questions and allows you to give reasons to all your answers. Please get as many childminders as you can to fill this in.

I have written to NCB to make a comment about the survey.

While I think it is very relevant I am quite concerned that it might throw up biased results because of the way the questions are set out.

I will let you know if I get a reply :D

Hi Heather, my name is Sarah. I am a childminder, an early years writer and the author of this document, written for the Childminding Forum in association with childminders across the country -
http://www.childmindinghelp.co.uk/mgc

I am also the author of this petition against ratios changes - http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/uk-government-department-for-education-leave-our-early-years-ratios-alone which currently has over 21,000 signatures.

I have just completed your survey. I was a little frustrated to note that you have not given an option for childminders who want to say they do not want agencies under any circumstances.

You have given choices for what they might want an agency to do – I simply ignored them and wrote in the box. Others might not understand that this is an option and might tick a box in the mistaken belief that a ticked box is needed to move on to the next page.

This will then lead to results which are false and do not represent the true feelings of the respondent.

I am aware of the support NCB offered childminders lobbying when the Eyfs was introduced and would like to thank you for that.

Best regards, Sarah
