Hi all, just a quick question.

When it comes to assistants,
can you register more than one?
What are the costs involved in registering assistants?
What is the minimum age for an assistant?
Is it worth registering my husband as an assistant in case of emergencies?

Sorry for the silly questions.

1. Yes but if you work with more than 3 you will need to be registered as a business with your local council and pay business tax.

2. It's free

3. Not sure but would think it would be 18

4. Yes, definitely. My hubby is registered as my assistant and we work together full time. It's fantastic!

Hope that helps.:)

P.S. No questions are silly, please feel free to ask anything :)

Having an assistant can work really well ... or it can be an absolute disaster.

Make sure you have a legal agreement drawn up if it's not your partner and the amount you both earn from the business needs to be clearly stated, depending on how much income the business takes, not a flat salary... I had a friend come unstuck when she took on an assistant and there was no clear way of dropping the assistant's salary or laying her off when 2 children suddenly left.

Hope this helps :D

Can i register 4 then only use one at a time, depending on who is at home. Or does it mean you would still be a business if you only ever used 1 for 2 hours per day.

Yes that was one of the things I was interested in. I'm not wanting to employ anyone as such, but maybe register my husband and eldest child (16, if he is old enough).

As far as I am aware it is how many are working at the time not how many are registered, but it would be worth just checking.

Perhaps I'll register Sam so she can help me out during the summer holidays. I can have more kids then
