I have a blackboard fixed to the wall, it's quite long and low down the children love it. I have one inside and outdoors.

I have one and it gets used by all ages every day. I bought blackboard paint and painted it directly onto the wall. We then just attached a frame round it that we had left over from when we did up our kitchen. You would't need a frame but it is useful as a boundary so they don't chalk the walls - has worked so far!!!

I have a free standing one from Ikea, which i preferred to the wall option as i am able to move it around the house so that it can be incorporated in different ways in the setting. I also didn't want to encourage children to draw on walls incase they started drawing on walls in the house :) like the idea of a wooden boarder around the painted on blackboard though.

I've always had freestanding boards but they take up a lot of space so will prob go for putting one o a wall next time.:)

I have two outdoors, a long low one mounted on a wall about 1.5m long by 1m high and another mounted on a fence by the mud kitchen about .5m square which is the 'menu' for the mud kitchen. We made them out of 8mm outdoor ply cut to size and shape and sanded, then painted with homemade blackboard paint (one blue, one dark brown)

Total cost about £35 and an afternoon.

Ive painted one on the wall as I dont have a lot of space for a free standing one. I dont have a frame but they've never scribbled on the wall which suprised me. It cost me about £6 for the paint and we love it.

My husband made them with some wood from B&Q and then painted them with blackboard paint.

I have a magnetic one from Ikea which is popular with all ages. I think it was called Luns.

I've painted one on my wall that's magnetic and hubby out a boarder round it to save the wall paper and a small shelve thing for the chalks. My kids love chalkin on it and using the magnets and chalk to make transformers ! :)
