I have used bluefin for the last 10 years and about 6 months ago my bank ( lloyds tsb) did their usual selling pitch and I reminded them then that they did not insure childminders and they advised me they now did and I am so happy just had renewal notice £433 called bank and got like for like with the accidental damage and got £70 saving plus £50 cash back.

Please be warned about insurance companies saying they cover childminders as myself and a friend both made MORE THAN confirm to us that they understood we were childminders working from home. I even went as far as to make them confirm it in writing. Unfortunately on christmas day 2011 my friends house caught fire and she lost everything and thats when they refer to the small print and say they will not replace anything associated with a business and thus knocked her claim down by £11,000 and no amount of complaints would make them budge. You dont even realise you have so much stuff until something like this happens. Our local council gives out grants like sweeties in march but said she did not fit the criteria so she got no help there either?! A number of other childminders heard what had happened and asked more searching questions about their insurance and guess what, whilst they all insured childminders none of them would replace business losses.

That's worth knowing. I'm with lloydstsb. Just renewed in October, so I have a while to wait.

This insurance company offers specialist cover for childminders and might be competitive - Childcare Insurance (http://www.childcareinsurance.co.uk/) :D
