I've read somewhere that there's a new law coming in to force this year, that all children are going to have to remain rear facing until 15 months!!

This means more new car seats, but the rear facing ones for bigger children are soooo expensive. You're looking at £250 +

There is nothing on the government website saying its about to change.

https://www.gov.uk/child-car-seats-the-rules/overview

They would have to bring down the prices if they wanted to change the law or they will be subsidising alot of parents who couldnt afford that

Think this rumour has bee flying around for quite a while now but as FussyElmo says the official THINK website makes no mention of it

I couldn't find the official website to check.

Thanks Fussy, puts my mind at ease for a bit as I would have to buy 2 new seats as I've got a baby starting in April who'll be 7 months and a baby sibling coming at some stage, so could be very expensive.

I have an 17 months old (average height) who still goes in a rear facing seat (the carry one). His legs are fine, he sits with his feet crossed over a bit.

The britax first class rear faces until that age, I think mine cost about £80 - its a common car seat so lots of people probably already have them.

I have one, they are really roomy, also I have built in car seats in the seven seater which are easy to rear face so I'm sorted :)

I went to a safety conference 3 or 4 months ago and there were road safety people there. They didn't mention rear facing seats but they did say that booster seats were being phased out and children up to 145 cm had to have a seat with a back on....god knows how I'm going to get 3 of those on my seat!!
This regulation should've been enforced in september but its been put back to the spring.

I have 2 of these : Nania Racer SP Car Seat - Noir Gris | Group 2 - 3 High Back Boosters without Harness | ASDA direct (http://direct.asda.com/Nania-Racer-SP-Car-Seat---Noir-Gris/002679224,default,pd.html)

I would easily fit 3 along my back seat they can be used with the harness or they can be removed and used with the car seat belt for older children. They are not too heavy to get in and out of the car. I have used one in the middle with a Britax first class either side and I have had 2 of the above with the britax at one end.

I don't have an enormous car, just a Skoda Octavia 5 door hatch back.

Oh and I think you will find they can come off the high backed booster when they get to 135cm.

It was a new EU regulation supposed to be implemented in January 2013, but I believe it has been delayed. However, the UK may not ratify the law anyway.
