I was told we didn't need a visitors book. Is if a legal requirement or best practice. When I had my inspection 3 years ago it was not mentioned.

I would only use it in work hours. Afterall once working hours are over its YOUR home not work place x

it isn't a legal requirement, but is seen as 'best practice'

i have one for any visitors whilst mindees are present. i don't always remember to get people to sign, but do usually fill it in.

its useful, if for no other reason i can look back and see when i last had the plumber or whoever out ;):D

It is not a requirement just good practice and inspector confirmed this at last unannounced visit last August.

I don't have a visitors book & never have had.

I've visited other cms who have them (while they are working), but they have never signed me in or out! I don't see the point of them if you only do them sometimes.

If you do have one, you only need to fill it in while you're working.

It is a requirement to have a visitor policy which covers how you check the identity of visitors - this is linked to safeguarding and ensuring you keep intruders out of the house.

I make a note when we have visitors in my diary so I can refer back to check when they were here if there are any queries or visitors are linked to allegations / things children might say in the future.

Hth :D

I had an inspector turn up after someone made an anonymous complaint that I was over minding when in fact I had 3 children over 8 years plus little ones so had a surprise visit from ofsted.

I have never had one and don't intend to either. I know who is in my house and when and why. I have never been questioned on it by Ofsted, who were happy that I thoroughly checked all ID before I let them in the house. Why do more paperwork than we need?

I get work men to sign in & out (only one has been to fix the washing machine). I don't get visitors that I know to sign in, although I guess it's nice to have a record:)
